Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z TriFold: The First Tri-Screen Smartphone

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Z TriFold, a groundbreaking device that merges the functionality of a smartphone and a tablet into a single foldable design. The TriFold features three interconnected display panels that unfold to create a 10-inch tablet-sized screen—the largest ever on a Galaxy mobile device.

Revolutionary Design and Functionality

The device utilizes two hinges to transform from a conventional smartphone form factor into a multi-screen workstation. When fully expanded, the TriFold’s Dynamic 2X AMOLED display boasts a resolution of 2160 x 1584 pixels with a smooth 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Users can operate the device as a unified large screen or split it into three independent 6.5-inch displays, allowing simultaneous operation of multiple apps in portrait mode.

Samsung has optimized the TriFold for seamless multitasking, with drag-and-drop functionality between screens, ensuring it behaves as a single cohesive device. The outer screen, when folded, maintains a standard smartphone experience with its 6.5-inch 2520 x 1080 display.

Performance and Features

Despite its innovative design, the TriFold remains relatively thin when unfolded, measuring between 4.2mm and 3.9mm at its slimmest points. The folded thickness increases to 12.9mm. It is powered by a customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, and features a high-resolution 200 MP camera.

Notably, the TriFold is the first smartphone capable of running Samsung DeX, enabling a desktop-like experience through external monitors and peripherals. This feature positions the device as a potential productivity tool for professionals on the go.

Availability and Pricing

Samsung is breaking from the trend of niche, region-locked devices by launching the Galaxy Z TriFold in the United States during the first quarter of 2026. While U.S. pricing remains undisclosed, the device will first go on sale in South Korea on December 12, 2025, at approximately $2,500.

The Galaxy Z TriFold represents a significant leap in mobile device design. Its ability to combine smartphone portability with tablet functionality offers a unique experience for multitasking, productivity, and entertainment. The decision to bring this device to the U.S. market underscores Samsung’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of mobile technology.
