The popular free-to-play action game Warframe is crossing over into tabletop roleplaying with a new module for Paizo’s Starfinder. Called Operation: Orias, this adventure brings the fast-paced combat and distinctive factions of Warframe into the Starfinder universe, offering a unique experience for fans of both franchises.

A Fusion of Two Worlds

For decades, tabletop gamers have sought to adapt beloved media into their sessions. This new module delivers on that front, allowing players to experience the thrill of Warframe in a traditional tabletop format. However, Operation: Orias isn’t a direct port. It takes place within Warframe’s Origin System, meaning the gameplay won’t mirror the digital experience exactly. Players will control Protoframes with abilities designed to capture the game’s signature speed and intensity.

What to Expect From Operation: Orias

The module is designed for four players and a game master, pitting a team from the Hex syndicate against familiar Warframe enemies like the Infested, Corpus, and Grineer. The adventure is estimated to take four to six hours to complete.

According to Luis Loza, Pathfinder Creative Director, the team put significant effort into translating the frenetic action of Warframe into a turn-based TTRPG environment. Loza explained that character abilities were designed to emphasize speed and power, allowing for rapid movement and mass attacks against weaker enemies.

“I tried to make sure that I was able to translate as much of the intense feel of the game as possible with abilities that sold the idea of speed and intensity, even when moving at the turn-based pace of a TTRPG,” Loza said.

Why This Matters

This module represents a growing trend of video games crossing over into tabletop formats. It demonstrates how popular digital IPs can expand their reach and engage with a wider audience. The success of Operation: Orias could pave the way for similar collaborations, enriching both the tabletop and video game communities. The intersection of these mediums highlights a shared desire for immersive storytelling and tactical gameplay across platforms.

In conclusion, Operation: Orias offers a compelling blend of sci-fi action and tabletop roleplaying, promising a dynamic experience for both Warframe and Starfinder enthusiasts.
