Don’t blink. Walmart is still selling the MacBook Neo for $599. That is the original launch price, and it’s a ghost of a deal considering where things stand elsewhere. As of July 1? Yeah. It’s still there. Grab the 252GB base model for that price, or throw an extra $100 to get the 512 version with Touch ID.
This won’t last. Not long, anyway.
Apple hiked prices last week. Everywhere. Because of RAM. Of course it’s RAM. “RAMageddon” hit hard, and suddenly consumer electronics cost more to make, which means more money coming out of your pocket. The hike was $100 across the board. It started in Apple Stores on June 25. Then retailers caught on. Best Buy, Target, B& Photo, Micro Center? All charging the new higher rate now. Amazon and Costco? Sold out, but they were discounting before the news broke, so maybe check your local warehouse just in case.
The price floor has officially raised.
So Walmart is an anomaly right now. A glitch in the matrix. Or maybe they just run a slow supply chain update. Either way, it’s weird. Once this batch sells out? Bye. Say goodbye to $599 for good. You’ll be looking at $699 minimum. That makes it a decent buy, sure. Still tempting? Sure. But it’s no longer a steal.
Does this help Windows laptops compete? Hell yes. The Dell XPS 13 at $699 suddenly looks way more viable. Before? No contest. Now? The margin for error is slim.
Who keeps getting the $599 price going forward? Students. Parents of students. Teachers. Apple’s education discount covers them. Everyone else? Eat the hike.
If I wasn’t paid to find deals like this, I wouldn’t tell you. Gatekeeping 101. Keep this link saved, check back every hour if you have to, and buy it when you see it.
Specs Matter, But So Does Timing
Here’s what you’re getting for the price:
- CPU: Apple A18 Pro
- RAM: 8GB (that’s tight, but hey, it works for Apple’s ecosystem)
- Storage: 256GB is base. 512GB gets you Touch ID
- Screen: 13-inch IPS Liquid Retina, 500 nits, 60Hz. No OLED here, obviously.
- Cam: 1080p
- Ports: Two USB-C. Headphone jack included, thank God
- Connectivity: WiFi 6E, BT 6
The keyboard isn’t backlit. You get a standard Magic Keyboard and a mechanical touchpad. Not luxurious, not basic, just functional.
So? Maybe buy it. Or don’t. But know that $699 is where this lands permanently unless Apple feels charitable about memory prices again.
